Update...

Fri Jul 10, 2009, 7:54 PM
It's been a really long time since I've posted anything or updated a journal so I thought I'd share a few things...

I have a photo in my first juried art exhibit at the River Arts Center in Prairie du Sac. That's pretty exciting. I've also managed to shoot some business portraits, magazine photos and have another wedding shoot scheduled. I'm taking a trip to Santa Fe, NM to do some shooting in a week or so. Really looking forward to that, as well!

I also bought some new gear (another flash head and a smaller soft box and strip light, among other things). I've been considering volunteering as a photographer for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. Not an easy thing to do, but such a valuable gift...

I joined the Center for Photography at Madison with the idea of meeting other local photographers and shooting with them. Sadly, I haven't been out shooting much. I managed to get out and shoot some IR the other day, though. Hopefully, I'll get some more of those photos up soon, as well as some other more recent work.

Life has been busy, but wonderful. I've never felt more grounded...

My best to you all.

-Bob

A Few Features

Sun Mar 1, 2009, 6:05 PM
I thought I'd finally spend the time to figure out how to feature other's work. Here are a few portraits that caught my attention over the past several years. I find these inspiring for various reasons. I hope you enjoy them as much as I. :)

Focusing on life...

Sun Feb 22, 2009, 9:09 PM
Each day is amazing! Today I shot 100+ photos of Lauren, a beautiful one-month old girl. I'll be posting some of these soon.

It is so healing to focus on new life.

It's been a long week.

The transformation of a strong man into one who finds it painful to be moved, was difficult to watch. In a short period of time cancer ravaged my father-in-law's strong body and turned it into nothing more than a skeleton with skin stretched over it like some poorly constructed canvas frame. Fragile and useless.

Hands that built garages and outbuildings - hands that cleared land and helped so many - could now barely manage the slightest squeeze. A back and shoulders that carried so many burdens, now became burdens themselves. Clear, piercing eyes, were now dull and distant.

Yet despite your physical weakness Ken, your inner strength and resolve was evident throughout your final days. Thanks for another, and final, lesson without words.

Photography vs. Music

Wed Dec 10, 2008, 8:26 PM
Photography wins...

At least it does for now. I've decided to take a hiatus from music and spend my free time working on photography exclusively. I have another paid shoot coming up in a few weeks so I decided it's time to get official and start a part-time business with the start of the new year.

Now I have to work on all the mundane, non-artistic tasks involved in such a venture. But hey, I'll be working toward something I really love, and that's what it's all about. :D
